I never buy greeting cards–it’s just not me. I can personalize a blank one faster than I can run to the store and buy one. I figure people relish a hand lettered card in this day and age of so much electronic communication. I’ve had people say, “I had to frame that envelope!” or “I could never throw that card away!”
I use cardmaking and envelope addressing as a way to try new designs or challenge myself to do something I haven’t done before. It is a great way to practice and expand my skills. It is a finished piece but not as high stakes as a big calligraphy piece. I have lots of fun with various papers and with some paper engineering, weaving, or embossing.
