I took my first calligraphy class at 13 and have been challenged and exhilarated by calligraphy for nearly 45 years. My motto is, “if it will hold still, I will letter on it!”
All my artwork is hand done. I work out of my home studio in Zionsville, Indiana and specialize in custom artwork, primarily on paper, vertical surfaces, and objects. I letter in multiple styles and use various media (ink, gouache, watercolor, acrylic, colored pencil, chalk, pastel, markers, and gold leaf). I enjoy incorporating images and decoration with lettering.
I also like to leave the studio to work on site for wall and window painting. My 16-year stint in live event work includes metal and glass engraving, primarily on fragrance bottles, as well as bottle painting for luxury brands.
After earning a BA in Design, I worked in prepress design for offset and silkscreen printing. I have been published in corporate publications and in an international decorative painting magazine. I have exhibited numerous times, including solo shows in Indiana and Washington, D.C., and worked on location in several states and outside of the U.S.
I have served on the board of the Calligraphy Guild of Indiana for nearly two decades and maintain a 15-year membership in IAMPETH (International Association of Master Penmen, Engrossers, and Teachers of Handwriting), where I had the honor of lettering the president’s certificate in 2022. I spent eight years in Indy Decorative Artists, a branch of The Society of Decorative Painters.
I teach multiple styles of calligraphy in short and long format classes for individuals and groups, primarily at the public library or in the home studio. Look for me on learncalligraphy.com! I continue to take classes and workshops from many different teachers around the world.
I have been married to my husband, David, for 35 years and have four superb children (now eight since they are all married). They and their children bring so much joy to our lives and keep us travelling and exploring. We are adventurous eaters and love cooking, gardening, learning, serving, going to musical performances, and visiting our vast extended family.
I also like flowers, dance exercise, color, truth, serving others, things that are well designed, and great people. I believe that my artistic gifts, energy, resources, and life come from God and I’m thrilled when others are blessed through me.
