I never buy greeting cards—it’s just not me. I can personalize a blank one faster than I can run to the store and buy one. I figure people relish a hand-lettered card in this day and age of so much electronic communication. I’ve had people say, “I had to frame that envelope!” or “I could never throw that card away!”
I use cardmaking and envelope addressing as a way to try new designs or challenge myself to do something I haven’t done before. It is a great way to practice and expand my skills. It is a finished piece, but not as high stakes as a big calligraphy piece. I have lots of fun with various papers and with some paper engineering or other techniques.
